A Simple Question That Changed Everything

Wasal began as a simple idea: what if there were a platform that took matchmaking as seriously as real marriage, and respected the fact that "residency" — not just religion and personality — is a core factor in compatibility? This question came from a simple but profound observation: a partner who plans to settle abroad forever is fundamentally different from one who plans to return home after a few years, even if they match on everything else — same religion, same sect, same interests.

Why This Detail Never Appeared Anywhere Else

We reviewed every matchmaking or marriage platform that existed at the time, and none of them asked this question directly. At most, they'd ask "where do you live now?" — but that doesn't answer someone's future intentions. Two people might live in the same city right now, one planning to settle there forever and the other planning to return home within a year — and that's a fundamental difference nobody was accounting for in compatibility.

From a Question to a Concept

From this question, the "Diaspora Bridge" concept took shape: a system that makes "future residency type" a core compatibility criterion, on the same level of importance as religion, sect, and commitment level. The idea was that we needed to design, from the start, four clear paths for a user to identify themselves: living abroad and not planning to return, living abroad and planning to return later, living back home and looking for a partner abroad, or open to emigrating later. Details of these four paths and how they're used in calculating compatibility are on their own dedicated page.

Why This Became the Foundation

Once this concept settled in our minds, every design decision after it was built on top of it. The profile-creation screen, the compatibility algorithm, even how the compatibility score is displayed to the user — all designed so "Diaspora Bridge" is a clear, visible factor, not hidden in some advanced setting nobody reaches. This early decision is what made Wasal fundamentally different from any other marriage platform on the market, not just a bolt-on feature added later.
